Medical Massage (also known as Orthopedic Massage) is a form of massage therapy that is entirely focused on treating painful conditions that affect the soft tissues of the body and helping to increase their ranges of motion and/or effectiveness. Because Medical Massage is designed to treat medical conditions, it requires extensive post-graduate training and certification (as a Medical Massage Practitioner, or MMP, such as I received in 2014), and must be accompanied by a prescription and statement of medical necessity from a medical doctor, chiropractor or physical therapist in order to be covered by health insurance or the insurer of a Motor Vehicle Accident or Workmen's Comp case.
Medical Massage can involve relaxing tense muscles, helping to progressively lengthen the ranges of motion of compromised muscles and tendons, helping to encourage the healthy recovery of injured muscles and tendons , decompressing the tissues surrounding rigid or inflamed joints and decreasing the tension of the fascia. Unlike relaxation massages, which are usually scheduled on a biweekly or monthly basis, Medical Massage sessions are commonly scheduled at shorter intervals in order to encourage the body to heal as quickly as possible, so you can get back to living your life on your terms! (Please note that because providing Medical Massage therapies also requires the investment of significantly more clinical time (in terms of record keeping, emailing, faxing and phone calling), and also results in much longer compensation delays. As such, the higher rates shown reflect the additional hours of recordkeeping and reporting required, in order to provide you with these services.)
Imagine one of the deepest Deep Tissue massages you've ever received (or, if you've never received one because you've always heard that they hurt, imagine a massage therapist's hands painlessly easing into the tissues of your neck, shoulders, back, chest, sides, hips or legs so gently that his fingers seem to almost disappear from view, while they work to unwind knots, scar tissue and fascial adhesions...)
Well, that's what I do.
I created my GentleDescent Deep modality by literally using myself as the "guinea pig" to test its effectiveness, after experiencing a catastrophic wrist injury and reconstructive surgery in 2011 that nearly ended my career before it began. At the time, my doctor advised me to expect a brief and uncomfortable career of not more than 2-3 years...
That was 12 years and several hundred satisfied customers ago, so I guess I must be doing something right!
What's more, between the "Reviews" page of this site and my GoogleMaps page, you'll find more than 50 individual 5-star testimonials that have been generously posted by newly painless clients of mine, most of which describe this one modality. Many have described it like this: "it feels like I'm melting..."
Why not try a session and decide for yourself if all of those reviews are true?
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common during and after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will be released from the tissues during the session.
Have you ever had the feeling that somehow, your life was always supposed to be more than it is? Have you ever wondered why others seem to be having more fun, easier interactions with their bosses, co-workers, spouses or kids, more loving relationships at home or greater fulfillment out of their lives than you are? If so,then Coaching may just be the thing you've been looking for!
In much the same way as the best athletic coaches help to guide their gymnasts or athletes through a series of conversations, goal setting and motivational and strengthening exercises, and then both encourage and hold them accountable for honoring their agreements and the completion of certain tasks, an effective Life Coach uses an assortment of coaching tools and processes to help you to transform one or more area(s) of your life that aren't working well for you into a more fulfilling, higher performing ones, through a series of carefully structured conversations that invite you to gain a better sense of various aspects of your life, including your direction, life purpose, career, business, interpersonal or romantic relationships or spirituality.
Life, Empowerment, Solution Focused and Relationship Coaching are fun, exciting and challenging processes in which you and I will get to look at this weird, wild, wacky and wonderful creature (you) a whole lot differently than you ever have before, an during our weekly or bi-weekly conversations by phone or zoom, I'll help you to cut through all the smoke and BS and strip away all of the layers of "the 'you' that they say you are" and begin to get a glimpse of "the 'you' you were meant to be"! Once we begin to know who that is, we can begin to set some goals, create some cool projects to get you moving towards them, and then set your feet on the path to creating a lifestyle that'll leave you feeling valued, meaningful and excited to wake up and get out of bed in the morning!
Because Coaching is a process that only works well if there's a serious commitment from both of us, and because you and I both already know that not everybody works well with everybody else, let's start with a simple, easy, "mutual discovery" call, where we can each get a feel for who the other person is, and see if we'll be comfortable working together. If we are, then I'll suggest a couple of possible pathways forward and leave it up to you to pick the one that's most comfortable for you, and if not, then I'll wish you my best and say goodbye.
Easy enough? Just click on my number, below, or send me an email to reach out to me and we'll get started!
Myofascial Release is a form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the entire body. It does this by using massage techniques to stretch the fascia and release some of the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. Fascia is the connective tissue that connects, covers and winds through all muscles, organs, and skeletal structures of the body. Direct Myofascial Release is a form of deep tissue work that focuses directly on fascial adhesions which "glue together" either specific muscles in a muscle group or multiple muscle groups, and works to separate the tissues in order to help them glide past one another more easily and comfortably. This process is sometimes assisted with the use of specifically designed instruments. Indirect release applies light pressure and gently stretches the fascia; this allows for increased blood circulation, decrease of pressure on the joints and relief from pain.
Myofascial Massage is a technique used to treat injuries and discomfort, reducing pain and increasing range of motion. Myofascial massage differs from other types of massage in that it targets the fascia — the membrane surrounding muscles — rather than the muscles themselves. Since fascia completely encases every muscle in the body, imbalances in the fascia can have serious effects on your range of motion and comfort level. While other forms of massage can overlook the fascia, myofascial massage focuses specifically on releasing tension in this important membrane.
Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.
Geriatric massage is a gentle form of massage designed to meet the specific needs of the elderly. It helps to improve blood circulation, relieve pain, and also increase range of motion. If you are elderly, geriatric massage can help you maintain and improve your overall health, as well as regain certain physical functions that have been reduced due to aging. In addition, since the elderly don't typically receive enough physical touch, this massage can also help alleviate symptoms of loneliness or depression.
Positional Release Therapy is a specialized technique that treats muscle spasm and chronic pain in the ligaments, tendons and joints by precisely manipulating the extremities to specific positions and holding them there for between 15-90 seconds, to allow them to release and relax into far greater ranges of comfort and mobility that were previously possible.
When properly performed, PRT is a safe and effective massage therapy modality that is often beneficial for those with a history of acute or chronic soft tissue pain, especially for those whose muscles have "frozen" (or whose movement has become extremely limited) as a result of hyperextension injuries as often occur while overdoing it at the gym

Chair Massage is a simple and easy way of relieving stress and releasing tension either here at Massage Horizons or in the comfort and convenience of your own home or workplace**. You'll receive your massage while sitting and leaning forward on a specially padded, ergonomic massage chair which I will bring to your location. And if you're I can also bring a more specialized piece of equipment that gets positioned on top of a tabletop or desk (as seen in the photo, here) and makes it possible for those in wheelchairs or with other mobility issues to receive chair massages right where they're sitting, without having to first get up and walk over to the massage chair.
In addition to the usual health benefits of massage, another benefit of chair massage is that it is done while you or your employees are fully clothed. (A little detail that your company's Compliance Officer will appreciate!) Also, chair massage sessions are usually much shorter and less expensive than traditional massages — often just 10-15 minutes — making them convenient enough to fit into anybody's busy schedule or budget!
(**Please note that there is a travel surcharge involved to bring myself and my equipment to your location)
Reiki is a Japanese form of energy work that cleanses and balances the energy system in the body. As a result, the body's natural self-healing mechanisms strengthen, helping to establish optimum health. During a session, I work directly with your energy field to remove blockages, detoxify your system, and restore your vital life force energy. Reiki utilizes a gentle laying on of hands to conduct the necessary energy force between us. The benefits of Reiki range from the release of habitual mental/emotional stress to alleviating chronic pain.
Cupping is an ancient myofascial release technique that relies upon upward suction, rather than downward pressure, to release adhesions and separate fascia from muscle tissues. In use for hundreds or thousands of years and an integral part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), cupping was originally performed by holding a flame near the tissue to warm it, then applying a small glass or ceramic cup or bowl to create that suction. More recently, clear plastic or silicone rubber cups are used over a thin coating of oil or lotion on the skin, the suction then sometimes being created by a manual suction pump), and these cups can either be left in place, to treat very specific adhesions, or glided across the skin to address more general flexibility.
What if there was a simple, easy and effective way to release those long-held criticisms and harsh judgments that you've received along the way? (You know, the ones that've come up time and time again at work and in your relationships, and that you've carried around with you for months, years, decades or even longer? What if it didn't have to take years of therapy or some long and drawn-out process of "working through things" for them to release their hold on you? What if you could just let them all go?
The Access Consciousness Bars® are 32 points on the head that when lightly touched by a trained practitioner begin to clear all of the judgments and limitations you have about different areas of your life. These areas include your body, money, control, creativity, healing, joy, sadness, aging, sexuality, awareness, kindness and many more. What would it be like to have more freedom in all of these areas? Who and what could you be or become if those limitations no longer held you in place? At the very worst, you'll emerge from your first Access Bars® session feeling as calm and light as if you'd just had a soothing massage... and in the best case scenario, your whole life can change! (And how does it get any better than that?)
